Humanistic Education
In addition to presenting the core principles of humanistic education in the accompanying clip, I mention the work of Carl Roger’s Freedom to Learn. Rogers is one of the early modern writers in developing a humanistic education vision. If you are interested in a summary of his approach I have prepared notes and excerpts from his work here.
Nel Noddings is a more contemporary educationalist and some of her work - especially on the theme of caring in education - can be seen as humanistic. If you want to look more closely into this theme, and Noddings work generally, check out this site

Humanistic Learning: Critique
In the second clip I highlight some of the limitations, or critique of humanistic approaches. One of the most robust critical perspectives of the shadow side of the approach can be found in Hayes & Ecclestone and Haye’s The Dangerous Rise of Therapeutic Education. I offer a review of the title which was published in Pastoral Care in Education, (2012) here.
