Progressive & Radical Education
As a way of preparing for the sessions for this module you will find it useful to review the clips here presenting progressive and radical learning theory.
There are several writers on progressive and radical approaches. Some of the writers to take a look at are:
- John Dewey, who wrote extensively about education, experience and democracy.
- bell hooks
- Paulo Freire
- Ivan Illich
A specific example of a radical approach to education can be found in Mezirow’s Transformational Learning, developed by Jack Mezirow. A summary of this model can be found here.
